Afrobeats Star Burna Boy to Donate Anti-Xenophobia Concert Proceeds to Attack Victims

#AfricansUnite

Afrobeats artist Burna Boy will be putting on a concert to raise funds for the victims from recent outbreaks of xenophobic violence in South Africa.

What We Know:

  • Burna Boy has put together a concert in which he says the proceeds will go to the victims affected by the recent xenophobic attacks in South Africa this past September.
  • Following the attacks, Burna Boy and other major Nigerian artists such as Tiwa Savage vowed to not step foot back in the country and some artists even canceled shows. They called for an end to the violence and wanted the country’s government to protect foreign nationals.
  • Burna Boy has recently announced the anti-xenophobia concert, which is focused on bringing people together. The concert will have performers such as Nigerian-American artist Jidenna as well as South African artists Kwesta and Busiswa.
  • The concert is titled “Africans Unite” and will be taking place on November 23, 2019. Although most of the feedback since the announcement has been good, there have been some critics of the concert stating they believe the star is going back on his word by having it in South Africa.

Burna Boy recently won “Best African Act” at the MTV EMAs and also sold out London’s Wembley Arena. He is set to perform next at Afropunk in Johannesburg.
