Published

on

New York rapper Benny the Butcher was shot in the leg on Saturday during a robbery attempt.

What We Know:

  • Houston Police reported the rapper, whose real name is Jeremie Pennick, was shot in the parking lot of a Walmart. Benny, 35, and two other people exited his Rolls Royce when they were approached by five masked individuals. They were demanded to give up their chains. Apparently, the victims were not removing their jewelry fast enough which led to a suspect shooting Benny in his leg. Houston Police spokeswoman Jodi Silva says the shots were fired around 4:30pm.
  • The armed robbers fled the scene and Benny was taken to the hospital. Fortunately, the other people with him at the time of the robbery were not injured. He is among three rappers involved in Texas shootings within the past week. With four total rapper involved shootings just this month including the fatal shooting of Chicago rapper, King Von.
  • Last Wednesday Dallas rapper Mo3 was shot and killed  in daylight on the Dallas freeway. Mo3 was considered the protege of Louisiana rapper Boosie Badazz who also suffered a shot to the leg this Saturday. He attended Mo3’s vigil at Dallas City Hall to pay respects to his close friend on Friday. The next day someone opened fire on the sprinter van he was in near Big “T” Plaza, a shopping center in southwest Dallas. Witnesses called 911 after gunshots were heard. The shooters were able to get away and as of now no suspects have been arrested. Luckily, both Benny and Boosie are in stable condition.
  • The suspects in Benny’s shooting have not been captured either according to Silva. She says an investigation is in progress. The suspects’ description was not immediately released, but we were later told they were driving a Chevy Malibu. Authorities do not believe the shootings are connected at the moment. It remains unknown whether Boosie’s bullet was targeted or a coincidental stray.

Benny the Butcher released his second studio album Burden of Proof last month. He is a part of hip-hop group Griselda. Recently, Benny signed a management deal with famous rapper Jay-Z’s Roc Nation entertainment agency.

Man Accused of Kidnapping Dallas Boy Faces New Murder Charge

Published

on

A Dallas man initially accused of kidnapping four year old Cash Gernon is now being charged with capital murder.

What We Know:

  • An 18-year-old from Dallas allegedly kidnapped a sleeping Gernon from his bed last month. He is now being charged with capital murder after the toddler was found stabbed to death a few blocks away. Darriynn Brown’s charges have been upgraded on Wednesday night. This is after new evidence has been found linking him to the murder.
  • Dallas police say “evidence submitted to the lab has been returned linking” Brown to the young boy. Authorities have not specified what DNA evidence they have. Police did not immediately identify Brown as the suspect. Brown was identified later on via surveillance footage taking Gernon from his bed around 5 a.m.
  • Two hours after the incident, a jogger came across Gernon’s dead body lying in the street with multiple stab wounds. At the time, Cash and his twin brother Carter were staying with their father’s girlfriend, Monica Sherrod. Their father allegedly skipped town to outrun drug charges. Carter is now in the custody of his mother, Melina Seagroves.
  • Police allege that Brown knew Sherrod and her teenage son, but their exact relationship is unclear. Before the DNA was returned, Brown was already facing kidnapping and burglary charges. In February, Brown walked into another Dallas home attempting to snatch a two year old girl but was stopped by her grandfather. Brown attacked the man and fled the scene without the girl.

Brown was charged with burglary and injury to an elderly person in that incident.
