BTS Releases “Life Goes On” Music Video and New Album

Published

on

BTS’s highly anticipated album Be has finally arrived, along with a new music video for the track “Life Goes On.”

What We Know:

  • Be and the “Life Goes On” music video was released on Friday at midnight. The album features eight tracks: “Life Goes On,” “Fly to My Room,” “Blue & Grey,” “Skit,” “Telepathy,” “Dis-ease,” “Stay,” and the smash hit “Dynamite.”
  • In the pre-release press conference, the band – composed of RM, Jin, J-Hope, Suga, Jimin, V, and Jungkook – said they wanted to send “a letter of hope” to their fans that life goes on even though we’re in a new world with the pandemic. Jin, the oldest member, hopes that listeners can relate to the feelings of emptiness and anxiety expressed in the album and find comfort in sharing those feelings with others.

  • The tracks on the album dive into the emotions that many people have felt during the pandemic: loneliness, fear, and uncertainty. The lyrics certainly send a message of staying connected with others and trying to do what you can to feel normal and have hope.
  • As of early Friday morning, the “Life Goes On” music video has just over 54 million views within 17 hours of its premiere. BTS is known for racking up views on YouTube. Their music video for “Dynamite” holds the record for most views within 24 hours, with just over 100 million views on its first day of release.
  • “Dynamite” was a summer hit worldwide and was the group’s biggest success in the US. It became the first song by a Korean group to top the Billboard Hot 100 chart and held the No. 1 spot for three weeks.

Be is the latest entry in BTS’s already historic discography. The runtime is just under 30 minutes, and it’s a sweet and short way for them to reflect on this strange year.

Willow Smith Opens Up About Being Polyamorous

Published

on

Willow Smith opened up to her mother and grandmother on “Red Table Talk” about being comfortable with multiple intimate relationships.

What We Know:

  • Artists and musician Willow Smith is embracing a polyamorous lifestyle according to this week’s discussion on “Red Table Talk,”  a popular Facebook Watch talk show hosted by her mom Jada Pinkett Smith accompanied by grandmother Adrienne Banfield-Norris. Polyamory is the pursuit of multiple emotional and romantic relationships with the informed consent of all partners involved.
  • Willow tells her family that her decision to pursue consensual nonmonogamy is rooted in her distain of marriage and the traditional roles of being a married woman. She noted that “With polyamory, I feel like the main foundation is the freedom to be able to create a relationship style that works for you and not just stepping into monogamy because that’s what everyone around you says is the right thing to do.”

“So I was like, ‘How can I structure the way that I approach relationships with that in mind?'” she continued.

  • Gabrielle Smith, a polyamory advocate, appeared as a guest on the talk show to discuss what consensual nonmonogamy means. “It’s not about, ‘Oh, I wanna have all these partners. I wanna do all of these things,'” Gabrielle said. “It’s just like my sexuality. I’m not specifically attracted to men, and I’m not specifically attracted to women or any other gender. It’s that I am open to anything. I want to be able to take opportunities if I feel like they’re natural to me.”
  • According to a 2016 study out of Indiana University published in the Journal of Sex and Marital Therapy, over 20 percent of U.S. adult surveyed reported having at some point in their lives experienced this nontraditional romantic arrangement despite age, education level, income, religion, region, political affiliation, and race. However, straight men straight, gay men, lesbians, or bisexual people were likelier to have experienced consensual nonmonogamy.

Willow admits that although she believes in polyamory, she didn’t see herself having more than two partners at a time.

Floyd Mayweather to Fight YouTube Star Logan Paul in Miami

Published

on

The fight will occur at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Florida on June 6.

What We Know:

  • Five-time world champion Floyd Mayweather announced the event on Instagram this Tuesday. In his post, he mentioned Mayweather Promotions, Fanmio, and Showtime are teaming up to produce this “epic event”. Viewers at home can watch the boxing match via pay-per-view on Showtime in the United States, or Fanmio in other nations. Showtime has not provided any prices as of yet, but those watching on Fanmio can purchase the competition for $49.99. Tickets also go on sale next week.
  • Prior to Tuesday’s announcement, the fight was originally scheduled for February but had been postponed indefinitely due to COVID-19 restrictions. Since then, it was billed as a “special exhibition”.
  • Mayweather told The Disruptive Entrepreneur podcast he believed a fight between him and Logan Paul meant they could “go out, entertain, have fun, and make nine figures, $100 million or more.” The Athletic mentions that “Mayweather’s eye for money led him into verbal exchanges with Paul.” The latter immediately responded and the two began discussing a potential match. After the initial February event fell through, Mayweather pulled some strings with his connection at Showtime. The company was willing to promote the show on their platform because of “the drawing power of the social-media influencer brothers in the ring,” referring to Jake and Logan Paul.
  • Mayweather’s statement did not specify how many rounds the duo will fight nor the size of gloves they will use. According to Fanmio, additional rules and the undercard will be released soon. However, TalkSport reported some undercard information has begun leaking. For example, Jean Pascal will rematch Badou Jack for WBA’s “regular” light-heavyweight belt. Jarret Hurd will also go up against Luis Arias. For the third undercard, there are rumors it may feature celebrities.
  • TheGrio wrote that some fans believe the match is a way for Mayweather and Paul to make some more money. They feel it will be similar to the fight between Mayweather and Conor McGregor.

  • Logan is a novice to the world of boxing. Initially a YouTube star, he began a professional boxing career in 2019. He has only fought once and lost to fellow YouTuber KSI in November 2019. Jake also recently broke out of YouTube and started boxing. Jake has a better reputation in the boxing world, beating figures such as Nate Robinson and Ben Askren.
  • Mayweather will come out of retirement for the second time for the June 6th match. The boxer, who has 50 wins and 0 losses, as well as 27 knockouts (KOs), last defeated McGregor by a 10th round technical knockout (TKO) in August 2017 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Mayweather has won titles in the junior lightweight, lightweight, junior welterweight, welterweight, and junior middleweight divisions. He also defeated Tenshin Nasukawa in 2018 during an exhibition bout.

Mayweather is also coining the match as an “epic crossover event”. He is currently preparing for it at the Mayweather Boxing Club in Las Vegas. Mayweather intends on carrying it a few rounds, similarly to how he did in the McGregor fight.

Britney Spears Asks to Address Court at Hearing on Her Conservatorship

Published

on

Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Brenda Penny permitted pop-star Britney Spears to personally address the court dealing with her conservatorship on June 23.

What We Know:

  • Spears’ attorney, Samuel D. Ingham III, asked for the hearing when the court convened to discuss matters about accounting and fees on Tuesday. Spears wanted to talk to the court “on an expedited basis,” said Ingham. As of right now, nobody knows what Britney will discuss in June.

“The conservatee, she has requested that I seek from the court a status hearing at which she can address the court directly… This does not relate to any of the matters on the calendar now, and it does not relate to the accounting or the fee issues,” said Ingham in a video conference.

  • The court met on Tuesday to review motions about fees and accounting matters for the conservatorship. The court date included an objection from Lynne Spears, Britney’s mother, over more than $890,000 in fees charged to Britney’s estate. Lynne took issue with payments to the firm Holland & Knight and requested the firm reimburse Britney. In addition, she asked the court to review all “raw records” of expenses in a filing from last week. NBC News discusses more on Tuesday’s hearing, as well as Jamie Spears’ response.
  • Britney’s conservatorship began in 2008, after a public mental breakdown. The court-appointed Britney’s father, Jamie, and attorney Andrew Wallet, as her conservators. This title gave Jamie and Wallet complete control of her finances. In 2019, Jamie became the sole conservator after Wallet resigned.
  • A documentary released in February, Framing Britney Spears, brought more scrutiny to the case. Britney fans started a movement called #FreeBritney to free the singer. The movement’s supporters believe her conservator is keeping Britney prisoner. They also think Britney’s social media posts are cries for help.
  • Britney also expressed disdain for the documentary’s representation of her and her family on Instagram. She said she felt “embarrassed” and cried for two weeks after watching a clip from it. Although Britney has expressed her appreciation for the fans on social media and court documents, she has not asked for the conservatorship’s end.
  • However, Britney wants to loosen the conservatorship’s control. In 2020, Britney began requesting her father be removed as the sole conservator of her estate. In November, she stated she is “afraid” of Jamie and would refuse to perform if he is still in charge of her. However, the court has not ruled in her favor just yet. Instead of removing him, the court made Bessemer Trust, a private financial institution, a co-conservator.

The June 23rd appearance will be the first known time Spears speaks in a court in more than two years. The public did not have access to her last court presence on May 10, 2019.  It is currently speculated Judge Penny will also block the media and public from this hearing.
