U.S. Capitol on Lockdown due to Increasingly Violent Protests from Pro-Trump Thugs

Published

on

Update 1/6/21 7:15 PM EST:

  • The National Guard, SWAT Team, and Metropolitan Police calmly walked out rioters from the Capitol beginning at approximately 4:30 PM.  Pelosi has announced the certification vote will continue at 8 PM EST in an undisclosed location.

  • Prior to the building being re-secured, a pipe bomb was discovered at the Republican National Committee’s headquarters.  The device was found outside along the headquarter’s wall and was safely detonated by the police.
  • At least two more suspected pipe bombs, said to be real explosive devices, were detonated safely including one at the building that houses RNC offices and one in the US Capitol complex.
  • President-elect Joe Biden issued a statement asking Trump to “step up” and issue a statement disavowing the actions of his supporters.  Trump issued a statement requesting his supporters go home but continued his false statements of fraudulent election results and conflicting messaging.
  • Trump continued dangerous rhetoric on his social media platforms leading Youtube, Facebook, and Twitter to delete two of his posts.  Twitter also locked Trump’s account and is requiring the removal of three tweets citing their recent “Civic Integrity Policy” and stated if the tweets are not removed, his account will remain locked.

  • We are sad to announce the woman previously mentioned who was shot in the chest has died.  Details have not been released surrounding the shooting or details of her identity.

  • This is not a day we ever hoped to see as the Capitol has not been stormed and taken over in this manner since 1814 during the War of 1812 when the British burned Washington in retaliation.

The vote will continue despite these horrific events and we will continue to update this article as updates are made available.

Update 1/6/21 3:30 PM EST:

  • The Capitol rotunda has been breached with protestors breaking windows and climbing through them, walking throughout the Capitol as lawmakers hide in their offices.  Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi has called for the National Guard to step in and assist.
  • A woman is also reportedly in critical condition after being shot in the chest.  No further details on her condition are known.
  • Trump has only tweeted asking for support of the Capitol police and to “remain peaceful” but his staff is requesting a stronger disavowing statement.

Original Story 1/6/21 2:30 PM EST:

The U.S. Capitol, site of today’s presidential certification vote, is now on lockdown due to increasingly violent protestors onsite.

What We Know:

  • Protestors have scaled the U.S. Capitol building as they pushed through police barricades and police have begun to back off in certain areas.

  • Surrounding buildings are being evacuated including the Library of Congress’s Madison Building across from the Capitol as well as the Cannon House office building.
  • There are reports of several suspicious packages around the building and flashbangs being heard as well.
  • The certification vote has been paused due to the evacuations and protests.  This comes after Republican members planned to object to the certification vote and Mitch McConnell gave a message requesting they not do so.
  • Washington D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser has ordered a citywide curfew at 6 PM today until 6 AM tomorrow.

This is a developing story.

Jovita Moore, Atlanta evening news anchor has an aggressive form of cancer

Published

on

Channel 2 Action News anchor Jovita Moore has an aggressive form of brain cancer, WSB-TV reported during its 4 p.m. newscast Thursday.

((BREAKING NEWS))

ATLANTA ― The story was first reported by the AJC.  that Moore, 53, would be undergoing surgery for a brain tumor in April.

Moore, who has been with WSB-TV since 1998 and has won numerous Emmy awards ― had brain surgery in April after doctors discovered tumors. At the time, doctors had hoped she could be back on air in eight to 10 weeks, assuming no serious complications.  Pathologists discovered Moore had glioblastoma, a serious form of cancer. She is undergoing radiation and chemotherapy in an effort to slow the cancer’s growth.

Moore herself did not want to be on camera but sent an audio message to the station for the public to hear.

“I just want to say a quick thank you,” she said. “Thank you for your cards, thank you for all the gifts, and most importantly, thank you for your prayers and positive energy. I feel all of it. I’m home now, I’m up and about and doing everything my doctors tell me to do. So for now, I need to be here to focus on my health. I’m surrounded by my family, a very small circle of friends, but also your extended love and support. This journey for me started with an unusual headache so if something’s not right with you, I urge you to please get yourself checked.”

Glioblastoma, according to the Mayo Clinic website, “can be very difficult to treat and a cure is often not possible. Treatments may slow progression of the cancer and reduce signs and symptoms.”

wsb said people can leave a note online on the WSB-TV website or send cards to Moore at the station address: 1601 W. Peachtree St. NE, Atlanta, Ga., 30309. Moore has also asked for concerned viewers to donate to two charities: Our House, a charity that addresses homelessness, and National Brain Tumor Society.

Whoopi Goldberg, Danielle Deadwyler to Appear in Film about Emmett Till’s Mother

Published

on

Till will highlight Mamie Till-Mobley’s fight to obtain justice for the murder of her 14-year-old son, Emmett Till.

What We Know:

  • In 1955, while visiting family in Mississippi, Emmett became a victim of a hate crime; Carolyn Bryant, a 21-year-old white woman, accused him of harassing her at a grocery store. Several days later, Carolyn’s relatives took Emmett, beat him, and lynched him.
  • While preparing for his funeral, Emmett’s mother Mamie insisted on an open casket to raise awareness on violence towards Black people in the South; Mamie’s actions are considered one of the catalysts for the civil rights movement. The movie chronicles this decision, as well as Mamie’s choice to permit Jet Magazine to publish David Jackson’s funeral photos.
  • Watchmen’s Danielle Deadwyler will portray Mamie. When discussing her new role, Danielle said she is “charged with humility and great will” to embody Mamie’s life during such an “integral moment of personal tragedy and political rebellion” and the civil rights movement. She further mentioned she will accurately represent Mamie’s love for her son. Danielle expressed gratitude for the women who will support her in this endeavor, such as director Chinonye Chukwu, and Whoopi Goldberg, who will play Emmett’s grandmother, Alma Carthan.
  • In addition to directing Till, Chinonye wrote the screenplay, which is partially based on Keith Beauchamp’s original research for his 2005 documentary The Untold Story of Emmett Louis Till. The film is a follow-up to Chinonye’s Clemency, which stars Alfre Woodard. Chinonye also conveyed appreciation for the project. She said Till will tell a story of Mamie and Emmett’s humanities and their relationship. Alongside this, it will educate audiences on “the activist consciousness that grows within Mamie as she seeks justice for her son.”
  • Chinonye feels confident in her actresses’ skills. She called Danielle a “powerhouse of an actor,” and emphasized her joy in working with the “legendary” Whoopi. Principal photography will begin in Atlanta this September.

The news on Till was released just two days before what would have been Emmett’s 80th birthday.

Rudy Giuliani Travels to Miami to Condemn Cuban Government, Few Attend

Published

on

Former President Donald Trump‘s ex-lawyer went to Little Havana’s Versailles Restaurant the same day Cuban-Americans held a candlelight vigil outside the White House.

What We Know:

  • Rudy Giuliani denounced Cuba’s government to a small crowd. He entered Versailles at 9 a.m., but began his speech at 12:30 p.m. to around 15 people; in his discussion, he called the communist regime one of the most “inhumane, indecent, horrible” ones in history.
  • He continued by scorning President Joe Biden for his delayed reaction to Cuba’s July 11 protests. Despite the fact that Biden released a statement on July 12 standing in solidarity with demonstrators, Giuliani spread misinformation by saying Biden took four days to respond. He further called Biden’s response “pathetic” and criticized his leadership.

“If the president of the United States can’t speak up for freedom clearly, succinctly and with great strength, then he isn’t a real president,” Giuliani said.

  • The former lawyer and New York City mayor also stated he did not believe the coronavirus pandemic provoked Cuba’s demonstrations. He concluded this because he claimed he did not see any signs that read “give me a vaccine;” instead, he only saw posters that had different versions of “Cuba Libertad.” Giuliani’s statement on this concern spread more falsities, as one of the main reasons for the protests was the regime’s insufficient control of COVID-19’s effects on the island.
  • Giuliani also urged Americans to speak out against communism and implied that the Biden administration holds leniency on this issue. He added that Americans must fight these ideals just as hard as Cubans did on July 11.
  • Giuliani’s attendance at the iconic Miami restaurant went unplanned. He declared that he never organized the rally and that he just chose to visit on that day.

Giuliani chose not to respond when asked about low turnout. Regardless, an attendee answered for him, explaining that many Cuban-Americans traveled to the White House to commemorate the 26th of July events and urge Biden to take military action and restore internet to Cuba.
